It’s been said that it’s better to wait a while and have things fall into place than to rush and have them fall apart. Grammy Nominated Guitarist Doc Powells’ newest release since 2017 is evidence of the power in waiting.

His sizzling new single “Me, Myself & Rio De Novo” has instantly achieved overwhelming acceptance at radio with its catchy hook and feel good vibes, reminiscent of his iconic staple “We’ll Make it Last”. Me, Myself & Rio De Novo brings back the happy-go-lucky, free spirited days we missed in 2020.

This is no surprise coming from a multi-talented artist whose meeting with the late Luther Vandross, catapulted his career straight to the top, landing him on world-wide performances and live recordings of some of Vandross biggest hits like: Busy Body, Give Me The Reason, Forever, For Always, For Love, and the infamous guitar solo on Vandross mega hit Stop To Love. Powell quickly became the go to guitarist in New York, recording and performing with superstars like Mariah Carey, Kirk Franklin, the late Grover Washington Jr., Quincy Jones, Chaka Khan, Kirk Whalum, George Duke, Bob James, Stanley Clarke, Randy Brecker, George Benson, Dave Koz, Gerald Albright, Patti Labelle, Shirley Caesar, Justin Beiber, The Mighty Clouds of Joy, Jeffrey Osborne and Vanessa Williams and Aretha Franklin’s comeback record Jump To It. Calls soon started coming in for television commercials, soap operas (One Life To Live) tv shows like tv shows like the BET Awards, The Stellar Wards, Bet Honors and the NAACP Awards. Movie soundtracks include; Down and Out In Beverly Hills, Turner & Hooch, The Goonies, Hero and The Five Heartbeats. His signature guitar sound is now sealed in music history on over 200 songs by some of the biggest artists in every genre of music and has earned him over 12 gold & platinum records and 13 critically acclaimed Billboard chart-topping solo projects - keeping him in the forefront of contemporary jazz, rhythm & blues and gospel music. Doc’s musical journey started in Spring Valley, New York when he began playing guitar at age six. By the fifth grade, he had joined a band and was earning money playing at dances and bar mitzvahs. Powell played on his first professional recording session at the age of 15 and has continued to stay in the spotlight with chart topping projects ever since.

He says... “Keeping an open mind gives you endless possibilities to reach your goals and opens you up to new territory.”

It seems, he has this right since he continue to create music we just can’t seem to get enough of.
